phnom penh

we are in Cambodia now. the computer lab here is in a treehouse-type structure with fans. unfortunately, it's very very hot and even though the sun has gone down, i don't imagine i can stay up here much longer to type.

Phnom Penh is beautiful. the scenery reminds me a lot of Thailand, both naturally and culturally. the change from Vietnam to Cambodia was stark; i was taken aback. i am reminded that Vietnam is indeed a Communist country, a fact that didn't hit me until leaving and entering the Kingdom of Cambodia.

it is hard to be here without acknowledging the history of the Pol Pot/Khmer Rouge regime. it is sitting deep in my heart, even as you can see the signs of recovery in the region.

more thoughts to come in cooler times.
