easter and the killing fields
today is Easter in Cambodia. we spent the morning visiting the Chuong Ek (the Killing Fields), a very somber reminder of the cruelty and evil that is within us. this was a capstone to yesterday's visit to Toul Sleng (the genocide prison museum here in Phnom Penh.) (new life in the killing fields, see below.)
as we walked through the memorial tower (containing hundreds of stacked skulls) and among the dug out mass graves, two things ran through my head like a record on repeat:
i'm so sorry...
and
thank you God for redemption.
i prayed a prayer of sorrow and thanksgiving, asking God to never let me become ungrateful. i have the lion's share of wealth, freedom and comfort. i hope i never forget that.
tomorrow we head toward Siem Riep & Angkor Wat. i have four days left in Southeast Asia before heading off to Seoul for a quick visit with the relatives. i will spend the rest of today reading, reflecting and relaxing.
