the last days...
this is my last "real" day of vacation, which i spent with Sunny bike riding through town, shopping in the market, having papaya salad, getting a massage, drinking beer, and generally relaxing and winding down. tomorrow i will get on a 7 a.m. bus here in Siem Riep, travel for 12 hours to Saigon, and then head to the airport for a 12:50 a.m. flight to Seoul. three cities starting with "S" in three countries in 24 hours. yikes!i turned 34 years old yesterday. we spent the day at Angkor (Angkor Wat above at sunrise), one of the seven man-made wonders of the world, or one of those seven wonders lists. it was really incredible, but we did a one-day tour which was a fraction of the site. Sunny had seen enough after a few hours. i could've gone for more days if i had time, money and if it weren't 100+ humid degrees. that being said, i'm glad to have gone but i'm quite done with sightseeing now. i think my vacation has been the right length. long enough to unwind (it took a week before i could really SLEEP), but short enough that i haven't fallen deep into traveller's fatigue.
i'll spend 4 1/2 days in Korea visiting my relatives (an uncle a day), then head home. a nice bookend to a great vacation. i can't believe i've been afforded this time and privilege. how fortunate i am!!
