the last days...

this is my last "real" day of vacation, which i spent with Sunny bike riding through town, shopping in the market, having papaya salad, getting a massage, drinking beer, and generally relaxing and winding down. tomorrow i will get on a 7 a.m. bus here in Siem Riep, travel for 12 hours to Saigon, and then head to the airport for a 12:50 a.m. flight to Seoul. three cities starting with "S" in three countries in 24 hours. yikes!

i turned 34 years old yesterday. we spent the day at Angkor (Angkor Wat above at sunrise), one of the seven man-made wonders of the world, or one of those seven wonders lists. it was really incredible, but we did a one-day tour which was a fraction of the site. Sunny had seen enough after a few hours. i could've gone for more days if i had time, money and if it weren't 100+ humid degrees. that being said, i'm glad to have gone but i'm quite done with sightseeing now. i think my vacation has been the right length. long enough to unwind (it took a week before i could really SLEEP), but short enough that i haven't fallen deep into traveller's fatigue.

i'll spend 4 1/2 days in Korea visiting my relatives (an uncle a day), then head home. a nice bookend to a great vacation. i can't believe i've been afforded this time and privilege. how fortunate i am!!
