living in obscene abundance

i have:

1) medical insurance (until tomorrow), which means i've gotten::
a) six months' stock of medications,
b) a recent clean bill of health from the doctor, and
c) a new pair of glasses (same frame, but not broken!)

2) dental insurance (until tomorrow), which means i've gotten::
a) a dental cleaning, and
b) a filling (no more cavities!)

3) books, books, books including today's used book purchases of::
a) a Mandarin phrasebook,
b) a graphic guide to South-east Asia, and
c) Interpreter of Maladies. great reading material to keep me busy on:

4) three flights around East Asia, including a flight that will take me to::

5) a special (and super cute) man waiting for me in Seoul. but before that,:

6) a full belly (from the steady stream of tea, lunch and dinner dates with::
a) awesome friends and
b) wonderful colleagues)

7) more clothes & shoes than a person who claims a simple life should have,

8) two sweet and healthy kitties,

9) a kickass apartment in a kickass city, and

10) a subletter who'll help keep my kickass apartment while i'm gone.

11) many boxes stored in my parents' garage, which means i have excess material possessions. and i also recently acquired:

12) an external hard drive, onto which i put my excess files and extended the shelf life of::

13) my laptop, which allows me access to the:::

14) Internet (which is not so abundant in post-communist China) - which reminds me that i also have::::

15) freedom of speech, and related to that,:::::

16) the ability to express my thoughts, and also a way to express my gratitude to::::::

17) a loving God, who has given me so much more than i need - or deserve.

i have an obscene amount of good things in my life, and i'm thankful for each and every one of them. may you also be enjoying the abundance in your lives as well.

Interpreter of Maladies might very well be my favorite book of all time. I'm not sure if you've read it, but it's wonderful. Crap. I should say, "it sucks; it's horribly written, predictable, speaks nothing of the human condition."

Then you could be pleasantly surprised.
