the world split open

what would happen if one woman told the truth about her life?

the world would split open.

- Muriel Rukeyser, from the poem "Kathe Kollwitz"

-----

i am learning to speak the truth about my life, and with whom to share that truth.

when i was in D.C., i visited the Holocaust Memorial Museum. i didn't have a whole lot of time, so i rushed through it. i'm kinda glad because the experience was so intense. had i had more time to absorb it all, i may be depressed to this day. however, it was a sober reminder of the cruelty and evil we are capable of - both in the aggression of others and in the tacit refusal to defend what is right.

there is genocide happening in Darfur right now. we can write letters to the White House and Congress asking them to get involved; we can mobilize our friends, family and community; we can support Save Darfur Coalition with our resources. let's let the world know that genocide is not to be tolerated ever again.
