the numbers tell a story

1 voice, 1 spirit, 1 life

2 cats
(Meshach and Annabelle)

3 years since I've been in the social work Phd program
(I return on Monday)

4 p.m. today
(when my boss called about picking me up for the annual Minority Executive Directors Coalition dinner. She said, "Sorry SuJ'n. I'm running late." To which I replied, "It's 4 p.m. already???" I still had my eye shades on; I was still in bed sleeping.)

5 years since moving to Seattle
(Two weeks after moving here, I was scheduled to return to Atlanta to complete a major consulting project. It was September 15 - the first day of air traffic after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. I ended up getting bumped through three rounds of flights while they accommodated stranded travellers. My parents were worried that I'd get killed by another attack. I was just anxious to reach Meshach and Annabelle who were waiting in ATL. I brought them home safe and sound, via plane, five days later.)

6 staffpersons directly reporting to me
(Outreach, Homeownership, Finance)

7 years together with Bill
(who gets married in 2 weeks at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC)

8 hours worked last night
(8 p.m. - 4 a.m.; the reason why I slept til 4 p.m.)

9 years since Mallory was born
(She's beautiful and precious and smart and creative and curious and innocent and my proudest achievement, even though I've had very little to do with all the wonderful attributes listed above.)

10 inches
(and 4 feet)

11 minutes after midnight
(right this second)

12 years with Meshach
(who got prescribed antidepressants yesterday. Both my cat and I are taking happy pills. Who ever heard of such a thing??)

13
(is considered an unlucky number in U.S. mainstream culture)

14 total staffpersons under my supervision
(plus 2 BASW interns and 2 work-study students. The vast majority of my time in the office is spent on staff or management meetings/support. Other tasks don't get done at the office during business hours. That's why I work on weekends, early mornings or like last night, overnight at home. Tomorrow, I will enjoy a quiet Sunday afternoon in the office.)

15 years of non-profit involvement
(Sno-King Special Rec, Boys & Girls Club, Forsyth County Youth Shelter, Families First, Family Connection Partnership, Quest Ministries, API Women and Family Safety Center, Asians in America, Meals Partnership Coalition, International District Housing Alliance.)

So you've accomplished a thing or two. Why stop at 13?
